Colonel E.H. Taylor Straight Rye

Intro: From BT website: Straight Rye Whiskey has experienced a strong resurgence in the American whiskey landscape, yet Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. was making this style more than 100 years ago. This small batch, Bottled-in-Bond 100 proof straight rye whiskey pays tribute to the former Distillery owner with a unique rye whiskey reminiscent of days long past.

Review: Bias Alert! I am still a huge fan boy of Buffalo Trace products, they don’t sponsor this website but I would gladly take their bourbon if they want to send it my way…don’t send any to JDub, he’s a cur and doesn’t love it as much as I do!

The nose…great woody smells and sweet notes that you can always expect from the higher end products from Buffalo Trace. There are some fumes but nothing offensive.

The first sip…this is the thing, this rye is very forward with a sweet rye note mixed with a touch of Christmas spices. Let’s take another sip to see what we get…Second sip…no fume, a slight burn in the middle of the tongue. There is the sweet spice of the rye coming through. This reminds me most of the 10 year from James E. Pepper. J.E.P has about 3 times the same flavor, it’s crazy. Third sip…mmm…man this is yummy, I don’t know how they make such great products time and time again across the spectrum.

Is this worth the $? Yes. I don’t recall the price but as long as you are paying under $65, this is one to buy and have in your collection. It would make a great gift as well.
